About Us / Our Leadership Team

Ruben E. Diaz
President

Entrepreneur, loving husband and father of 4 (3 of whom attend Stevenson), Ruben Diaz is the newly elected PTO President for the school year of 2008-2009.  Before his presidential nomination, on the event of possible consolidation and closure of Robert Louis Stevenson Elementary School, Ruben was 1 of 4 invited community members to deliver a 3 minute speech giving reason(s) in keeping Stevenson Elementary School doors open.  To view his respectfully conveyed speech, click here.

In hopes of being a catalyst for communication with Stevenson parents, Ruben was also selected to serve in various other positions, including the following:

•  Parent Member of Stevenson's Shared Decision Committee (SDMC) assisting to pull together our community in a constructive, organized and unified body to enhance the education of all students

•  Parent Member of Stevenson's Marketing Committee (MC) assisting in the creation of an environment that fosters out-of district educational interest in Stevenson Elementary promoting its' administration, staff, parents, community, orderly environment, positive school climate, activities, programs, and goals located in a convenient location in Houston

•  Stevenson's Parent Representative on the Houston I.S.D Superintendent's Parent Advisory Committee (SPAC) to participate in discussions which impact our community, with the goal being that he share this information to you enhancing the timely delivery of information and feedback on issues that are relevant to H.I.S.D.'s leaders and parents.

Ruben is a charismatic president who possesses remarkable intuition, contagious motivation, and a strategic yet methodical approach in leading our PTO.

Ana Avellaneda
Vice President

5th grade mom, devoted wife and mother of 2, Ana is a muscle-bound asset to any PTO President. Coming from Milam Elementary (neighbor school closed in 2004), Ana has been a PTO Parent Volunteer for 6 years since 2003. Out of those 6 years, she served as PTO President for 3 (2004-2007). Last year, Ana graced our leadership team as Treasurer. Ana Avellaneda is an ideal model of a PTO mother and patron, supporting her children with all of their scholastic and extracurricular activities while still running person errands/familial duties and dedicating a full plate of her skill, time and presence as a very efficient PTO officer. She is extremely consistent, willing to lend a helping hand and fulfills every task at hand no matter how busy her lifestyle. She has the kindest of personalities with robust motivation and vigor.

Miranda Gonzales
Treasurer

Last year's PTO President, 1st grade mom and mother of 3 is Miranda Gonzales. Being a new mother again,
Miranda decided to pass her presidential scepter but still desired being an active team player in our organization by placing her talents toward our finance department. Transferring to Stevenson after Milam Elementary School's closure, for Miranda's family, Stevenson Elementary has become the "educational institution tradition". Her husband Joseph, his father, 2 of his aunts and an uncle were all students of Robert Louis Stevenson Elementary School during their childhood; to add, he also had a grandmother who served as a teacher's aide for Stevenson in the 1970s. With much to offer, Miranda is powerfully direct, straight forward, systematic, vivacious and incredibly resourceful. Miranda is always looking for a way. When a considerable idea is on the table, on her own volition, she is already searching for the answers and resources to pull the project thru from the woodworks to tangibility. This assured woman and "Road Runner" mom is hard to miss.

Sharon Pascual-Diaz
Secretary

Dependable and regularly communicates proficiently with the president as she is the "First Lady", who more suitable for the job of Secretary than Sharon Pascual-Diaz. Knowing that her husband is very busy, can-be-disturbingly loud and overly complicated but rich with ideas, she views that her main job is to keep the president focused, well-tuned and synchronized with the team. Also understanding Stevenson parents' busy lifestyles, cultural diversification, and residency inside and outside of Houston I.S.D., Sharon's goal as Secretary is to help bridge the gap and provide clear correspondence amongst her fellow officers, team members, Houston I.S.D. leaders and community supporters thru the organization's visual references (minutes, forms, calendar, newsletter and website).
